4 Music-filled Stars
ARC received from the author for an honest review
My first R.S. Grey read and I absolutely enjoyed it! Yeah, yeah, I haven't read Scoring Wilder yet (I just did after I had fun with Brooklyn and Jason) and looks like I've been missing a lot of sweetness from the author's writing.
The Duet is such a refreshing treat for me after all the emotionally-trying books I've been reading the past couple of weeks. Brooklyn and Jason took off my stress away and replaced it with a good time filled with smiles, laughters and "aww" moments. Well, there were those "oh hell no" ones too, both good and not-so-good but those "hell no" moments just added to the overall reading experience of the book.
If I could just fill this review with GIFs, it will be mostly of GIFs sighing dreamily, smiling like a goof and dancing happily.
Brooklyn Heart is a famous pop star, she's 27 years old, and have a crazy, hilarious but super lovable younger sister. Their relationship was the first thing that hooked me, Brooklyn and Cammie are extremely close, maybe because they're the only family they have left, but as I read on, it just feels genuine. They don't pity themselves, no feeling sorry that they were basically left as orphans when their parents died. They are strong-willed, survivors, and now they are successful. Brooklyn as a professional singer and Cammie as an architecture student. I love the easiness of their relationship, the genuine love and care they have for each other, if I have a sister, I would imagine a sisterhood like with these two.
Jason Monroe is the somewhat broody singer that Brooklyn was paired to by their label for their Grammy performance. He is sexy, serious, and openly displayed his lack of enthusiasm in working with Brooklyn. Why? Why? Why? Of course our girl Brooklyn isn't easily discouraged, and because she is naturally a very likable girl (yes, that's my personal observation), she tries to win over Jason's good side. I think my cheeks hurt reading their conversations, they were always so fiery with each other, it's so adorable. And they are not all about the cuteness too, they have their share of sexy, flirty scenes and that dash of drama we all need.
Everything about The Duet is a delightful break, kind of like a sweet dessert, after a lot of heavy course meal.
Stars: 4 stars

Extra Comment: I hope their song gets recorded even just for this book, it would be amazing if we can hear Jason and Brooklyn sing their duet!
