BLOG TOUR, REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Flash Point - Brooke Blaine

Title: Flash Point
Author: Brooke Blaine
Series: Standalone
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: July 12, 2015

The first time I saw her, I knew I’d have to kill her.

It’s been five years since the brutal death of her mother, and Katherine Shaw still relives the nightmares of that night.

She escaped.

The danger should’ve been over.

She couldn’t have been more wrong.

When her father, a prominent judge, receives a chilling death threat, her past comes hurtling into her present.

The warning is clear: They’ve got unfinished business, and they’re coming for her.

Katherine Shaw.

Rich girl? Check.

Spoiled and obstinate? Check.

A beautiful fireball who pushes every button he has? That was not listed on the dossier Jason Garrett receives when he’s assigned as one of her bodyguards. The last thing he ever expected was that his tempting client would prove to be more dangerous than those he’s protecting her from.
Their attraction would be forbidden even under the best circumstances. But as the threat draws near, the tension between the two of them rises, culminating in an explosive flash point that will blindside them both.

The wind whipped around them suddenly, a ferocious gust that caused Katherine’s long locks to go flying in every direction. She looked a bit like Medusa right then, hair thrashing about like snakes, hypnotic jade eyes blazing, and just as she lifted the hood of her jacket over her head, the wind died down.
“Yeah, that just figures,” she muttered, as she put her hand inside the hood to smooth down her hair.
Jason’s phone buzzed in his pocket, the caller ID reading Thompson. He answered before the second ring. “Sir.”
“Just calling to check in with you, Garrett. I spoke with Kirkpatrick and went over the rundown on our end, and he gave me—”
“Ow, shit, motherfucker—”
A string of curses continued to fly from Katherine’s mouth, her arm caught in an awkward angle over her face. The bracelet on her wrist had hooked onto the jacket liner of her hood, and the more she tried to yank it free, the more it snagged.
Thompson’s voice turned apprehensive. “Is everything okay over there? Is that Katherine—”
“Yes, yes, she’s fine,” Jason said.
“She doesn’t sound fine.”
“Just a little…female issue.”
“Female issue…? Ohhhh. I see. Well, good luck with that. Talk later.” Thompson hung up swiftly, and Jason shook his head. Wimp.
Katherine stomped her foot as she continued to wrench her arm free, and he tried not to smirk at how ridiculous she looked.
I should just leave her like that, he thought in amusement.
“Are you gonna talk on the phone all night or are you gonna fucking help me sometime this century?”
“Do you really want me to answer that?” he asked.
“No, what I want right about now is a chainsaw to free myself and then stick up your ass.”
He shoved the phone back in his pocket. “Sounds like foreplay.”
She stopped struggling for a moment, and he tried not to notice the way her shirt had ridden up to display a few inches of her creamy skin. “Now the sense of humor comes out? Now?
Stepping forward, he grabbed her wrist with one hand and tried to get her bracelet free with the other, but it was lodged in tight. Her pulse beat rapidly under his thumb, and he stroked over it once before realizing what he’d done. A quiet gasp escaped Katherine’s lips.
“Hold still,” he murmured, tightening his grip. “It might hurt.”
With a quick snap, he ripped the hood away, a chunk of tattered material still clinging to the mangled jewelry. She pulled the bracelet off her arm and rubbed her wrist.
“Thanks,” she said, a bit breathless.
He nodded as he backed away, and she got the hint to keep moving and not mention it.
They walked together in silence, for once, until a cluster of buildings came into view, and Katherine directed them toward it. When he saw her look over at him from the corner of his eye, he braced himself for the next round of questioning he knew was coming.
“So…you never told me your first name,” she said.
“No, I didn’t.”
“Well, that’s rude. I thought we just had a moment there, Jason.”
He stopped in his tracks, and she burst out in victorious laughter.
How the hell did she know that?
“And you thought I was unobservant.” She wore a smug look on her face. “I may be a lot of things, ruiner of jackets included, but give me a little credit here.”
“Where did you hear that?”
She shrugged. “It was a hunch. I’d referred to you as Jason Statham when I was talking to Steven at my father’s house, and I noticed you flinched when I said it. So, either you get that comparison a lot, or it was an involuntary reaction to hearing your name and trying not to react. Thank you for confirming my suspicions.”
Well I’ll be damned. Not just a pretty face, are you?
“Oh,” she said then, taking a step back. “Oh, no. That’s not…a tiny sliver of respect I see in your eyes, is it?”
He grimaced. “No.”
“Thank God,” she said with mock relief as she climbed the stairs to the main doors and stopped just outside them. “I couldn’t take it if you actually liked me.”
He had nothing to say to that, too busy trying to see past the mask she wore that he’d only briefly thought about earlier. She was observant. I wonder what else she’s hiding…
She turned around. “Can I ask you something?”
“God knows you would anyway.”
The Katherine that faced him now wore a serious expression, with no trace of the sarcastic woman he’d had to deal with the past few days. She cocked her head to the side as she studied his face.
“Are you always this much of an asshole with your clients, or am I just lucky?”
Before he could summon an answer, she reached for the door handle but then pulled away so he could enter first. She stayed beside him as she walked them to her class, and he knew she didn’t expect a response. After getting her settled and taking position against the wall nearby, he entertained her question.
Two things he knew for sure: First, he was definitely an asshole. And second, under the current circumstances, he’d never refer to Katherine Shaw as lucky.

If I haven't been chatting with the author about how excited I am about her solo debut novel, I wouldn't have believed that this book, Flash Point, is her first solo work. Everything about Flash Point just about held me captive for the entire night. It wouldn't let go of its tight grip on me; my curiosity and intense feelings from the story and the characters kept me up until I reached the end and find myself swiping on my Kindle for possible bonus scenes. (Eh no, there was none.)

One of two things happens whenever I finish a book that left me wanting more because I absolutely adored it; either I ramble on and on or I'm at a loss for words I and I wanted to just post GIFs for my accurate review. But with romantic suspense novels, I try to just keep it short no matter how much I want to ramble because I do not want to spoil the experience for those of you who haven't read it yet.

I enjoy romantic suspense both in my movies and especially in my books. It keeps my mind working, keeps me guessing, at the same time gives me butterflies. Flash Point was like that for me. I usually end up guessing by the first part who the possible "villain" is and the twist and turn the author might take, but surprise surprise! Brooke Blaine blindsided me! I totally didn't see that twist coming. What I loved about it too is that the author's writing flowed so easily. Katherine Shaw and Jason Garrett's story was nowhere near uncomplicated but even with the complications of everything that is happening, Brooke Blaine made reading a suspenseful novel an easy treat. I've read a few where flowery words were used, too much intrigue build-up only to feel let down when the plot was unraveled. With Flash Point, the "surprise" indeed made me go "Whoah! What?!" and it was fast-paced but jam-packed with romance and thought-provoking turn of events.

It's not lacking the sizzle and heat from Katherine and Jason's chemistry and I enjoyed their banter. It was sweet and these two just made my list of favorite hero and heroine and favorite couple... ever

Extra Comment: Congratulations on the amazing debut, Brooke! Now, who/what's next? Steven? *wiggles eyebrows*

You could say Brooke Blaine was a book-a-holic from the time she knew how to read; she used to tell her mother that curling up with one at 4 a.m. before elementary school was her ‘quiet time.’ Not much has changed except for the espresso I.V. pump she now carries around and the size of her onesie pajamas.
Flash Point is her debut solo novel, and she is the co-author of the erotic serial, A Desperate Man, with Ella Frank. The latter has scarred her conservative southern family for life, bless their hearts.
If you’d like to get in touch with her, she’s easy to find - just keep an ear out for the Rick Astley ringtone that’s dominated her cell phone for ten years.

BLOG TOUR, REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Bleeding Love (Hope Town #2) - Harper Sloan

Title: Bleeding Love
Series: Hope Town #2
(standalone series)
Author: Harper Sloan
Release Date: July 14, 2015

I've loved once. I gave everything that I had to that love. Blindly believing that nothing could ever take that feeling away from me. Away from us. And when my little world of happiness was ripped from my fingers, I felt a loss that still haunts me to this day.
Now I use that lingering grief as a shield to keep my heart from loving again. It's that fear that keeps me from letting anyone, except my daughter, get close enough to make it hurt. To make my heart bleed when I inevitably lose again.
Until the day I met Liam Beckett and everything I thought I had protected myself from was shoved back in my face.
He's on a mission to prove to me that a love worth having is a love worth fighting for.

His mouth leaves mine and with his hand still on my leg, he demands, “Dig your heels in deep, baby.”

I give him what he wants, but not because he told me to. I give him what he wants because when his hand leaves my leg and pushes into the mattress, bringing his body up he goes even deeper into my body and those heels push hard.

Just as he demanded earlier, my hands go to his shoulders on my own accord and as he takes my body hard, my nails dig in with my heels still pushing hard against the small of his back. Our eyes never leave each other’s probing gaze. Never once do I take my eyes away from his, so full of lust that I know there isn’t an ounce of control left in his body.

He drops his head and I lift up to meet him in a kiss so sweet it doesn’t match the powerful way that he’s taking my body. A kiss that gives me more than words ever could at this moment. His hips slow and as his tongue rolls against mine, his hips start to take me in slow, deep rolls. He doesn’t pull back, just rocks his hips against mine.

I push up and cry out when he slips even deeper.

His lips come from mine and his hooded eyes open a sliver. “Feels like heaven,” he says softly. “Everything, darlin’. Feels like everything.”

4-4.5 Lee Stars
ARC received from TRSoR for an honest review

"One thing I know for sure, I want this. I want this and Liam's going to give it to me."

Auto-buy, auto-read, whatever Harper Sloan writes, I will happily read. Bleeding Love is the second book in the spinoff and what I so lovingly refer to as the second generation Corps Security, the Hope Town series where all the babies from the CS are now grown-up and falling in love. Oh, how time flies.

Who wouldn't love a guy like Liam? Liam "Lee" Beckett, the only child of the fun and crazy Beckett couple. He is swoon-worthy sexy and a real treat to girls. Lucky, Megan! Lee was so patient with her, making it clear that he wants her, that he would love to be a part of her and her daughter's life, and that he will do everything to achieve that. Respect, I have so much respect for Lee because of this.

Megan has had a painful past, a heartbreaking experience which got me tearing up once or twice. What I love most about her, though, is how much she loves. Not just Molly, her daughter, but Lee, and her new friends. It took a while for her to open up and accept the fact that she now has friends to be her support system and just be there for her and Molly when she needs them.  It was a sweet experience reading Megan starting to live again, enjoy life, with Lee and the rest of the gang's help. And that daughter of hers, Molly, such a sweetheart! I always enjoy books with adorable kids. They add so much life and emotions to the story, I think.

You know when you have that friend who frustrates you but you still love them and listen to their problems because you love them? That's how I felt at first with Megan. I'm the friend who wants to scream at her and tell her to get her head on straight and just let Lee in, on the other hand, I sympathize with her and I can understand the guilt she's feeling and the guard that she has up. I'm so glad Lee is a persistent guy! Once Megan opened up, Lee drove right in and didn't let go.

Now, being an open, self-proclaimed Harper Sloan fan, you're probably wondering why this is not a 5-star read. Yes? I read this after reading Kristen Ashley's new release (I love KA, too, by the way) and at some parts, I had to double check that I am indeed reading a Harper book. That just put me off a teeny tiny bit because I love the way Harper Sloan wrote her earlier books and reading lines like a KA novel especially since I just actually finished reading one, wasn't what I expected. Other than that, go forth and 1-click Bleeding Love because Lee, Megan, and Molly will make you fall in love!

Stars: 4-4.5 stars

Series: Yes. Interconnecting characters.

Extra Comment: Of course, the bonus in reading Bleeding Love? Everyone makes an appearance!
harper sloan bio.jpg
Harper lives in small town Georgia just a short drive from her hometown of Peachtree City. She (and her 3 daughters) enjoy ruling the house they dubbed 'Estrogen Ocean', much to her husband’s chagrin. Harper has a borderline unhealthy obsession with books; you can almost ALWAYS find her with her eReader attached. She enjoys bad reality TV and cheesy romantic flicks. Her favorite kind of hero--the super alpha kind!

Harper started using writing as a way to unwind when the house went to sleep at night; and with a house full of crazy it was the perfect way to just relax. It didn't take long before a head full of very demanding alphas would stop at nothing to have their story told.

REVIEW: Katherine in Gold - J.B. Hartnett

Title: Katherine in Gold
Series: The Beachy Bride #2
(standalone series)
Author: J.B. Hartnett
Release Date: July 9, 2015

 5 Battle Stars
ARC received from J.B. Hartnett for an honest review

Holst Rutherford, Katherine Symes, and their sarcasm-filled-cold-shower-needed story are yet another reason why I love this author's books. It's never boring and with each book in this series, the characters get more witty, emotional, and sexy.

Katherine in Gold is a sweet story about Holst and Katherine fighting each of their battles until the extremely determined Holst convinced Kath that he would love nothing more than to fight her battles with her. By her side. Supporting her. Swoony! Who could say "No" to that offer, especially if it comes in a Hot Holst package? Certainly not our sarcastic, speaks-her-mind, funny Katherine. Katherine is a hilarious character. I think I've highlighted some words of wisdom from her in every page! I was worried about her "past", but the author did well in not giving too many details that would probably make me want to scream and cry but still make the emotions felt. But, amidst their own past dramas, their relationship was a hoot to read, it was funny one minute and then serious the next. They both kept me on my toes and I couldn't have loved reading their banter more than I already have.

I'm ready for the next characters' story! ;)

Phoebe St. Claire
“We’re a good team you know.”
I lifted my head in question.
“We fit together well.”
Feeling naughty, I threw him a saucy look.
As expected, he smiled a rueful grin. “Not like that.”
My heartbeat went sky high but I contained the effect he had on me and raised a sensual brow.
“Well, yes like that, but I mean in business. We work well together.”
Call it hopeful expectation but I knew we would. Gratified, I relaxed back down against his chest and murmured, “We do,” before hitting play on the remote. It meant a lot to me that Jeremy valued my opinion when it came to business decisions. He’d confided in me about his plans for Jet Set and we had even discussed the best ways to grow membership as well as which cities would be ideal targets when he was ready to expand. I pondered our business savvy as he drew shapes on my back but when the movie started, I dedicated my attention to Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Sometime during the movie, we must have fallen asleep because a pounding on my door woke me up. “Stay here, it’s probably Mrs. Bardot wanting to see her dress on me. I’ll just tell her I’ll come by before we leave.”
“Sounds good,” he mumbled as he covered his head with the pillow. All the sex we’d been having was probably wearing him out. I knew it was me.
I opened my door to find Lily standing there.
“I kissed a girl,” she announced.
I simply blinked at her.
“And he liked it.”
I stepped aside for her to enter. “Preston?”
She traipsed over to the couch and flopped herself down. “Yes, Preston.”
I pulled a blanket off the back of the sofa and sat in the chair. “I thought you weren’t having sex?”
“We weren’t. That’s the point.”
“Lily, I’m just waking up. Help me out a little.”
She covered her face in her hands as she spoke. “After I got off the phone with you, I went to go find Preston. It was late and he wasn’t in his room. When I called him, he told me he was in the hotel bar. I went down there to find him sitting with a French woman who didn’t even speak English.”
I was confused. “What was he doing with her?”
“I asked him the same thing. He told me it was nothing. That he was just sitting with her. I asked why and he told me he had overheard my conversation with you and felt bad that I was feeling sexually frustrated. Well hello, I told him, he could fix it.”
I grimaced.
“At least I wasn’t sitting in the hotel bar staring at a dude like I might fuck him.”
“Is that what he had planned?”
“No! That’s when he told me he’d never cheat on me. She was for me, for us, not him. And then he asked me to kiss her.”
“And you did?”
“Yes, I did, to prove a point to him. I wanted him to know I was sick of this no sex thing and if he wanted me to show him just how sick of it I was, I would. So I brought her to our room and we sat on the couch and I kissed her. Then I stood up and looked at him and asked him if I’d proven to him how much I wanted him now.”
I pulled my legs up under my chin. “And he said what exactly?”
“That he wanted me to kiss her again.”
The situation wasn’t at all funny, but I had a hard time not laughing. It was just so unbelievable. “So what did you do?”
“Packed my stuff and left him there to stare at her as I caught the next flight back to New York City.”
“Did you ever think he might have a mechanical problem and was looking for a way to . . . you know,” Jeremy was standing in my bedroom door looking yummy, all sleepy and crumpled.
Lily’s eyes shot to his. “To get it up?”
Jeremy cleared his throat. “Yeah.”
She looked at him deep in thought. “Why would he have a problem like that? He never has before.”
Jeremy shrugged. “Stress, medication, I’m really not sure. I’ve just heard it happens.”
“We have been under a lot of stress,” she admitted.
Jeremy walked toward me and put his hands on my shoulders, massaging them.
I sighed and leaned forward.
“St. Claire, focus on me.”
I laughed. I had really missed her. “You need to talk to him. Ask him about it.”
“What if he says yes? Then what? I have sex with a girl to see if he can get off?”
“Men do like girl on girl action.”
I cranked my head around. “Jeremy!” I scolded.
“I’m just being honest.”
I narrowed my eyes at him. He raised his palms. “Not me of course.”
Lily jumped up. “I have to run. I have to talk to Preston and find out what’s going on. I’ll call you,” she yelled as she slammed my door.
“What if that’s not the problem?” I asked Jeremy.
He plopped on the couch. “At least it will get them talking.”
I had to laugh.
That it would.

 5 Toxic Stars
ARC received from TRSor via Netgalley for an honest review

"I promise. I'm not going anywhere. With you is the only place I want to be."

There is always something about a Kim Karr novel that makes me want to hug my Kindle or my paperback every time I finish reading it. This time, Toxic is close to the top of my Kim Karr favorites (shh! Xander might get jealous).

Toxic is another intoxicating read from the author. Reading the synopsis, which very much hooked me on the spot, got me intrigued if I'm reading the same book right from the first page. I'm saying that in a good way, for me, I couldn't put the book down because I wanted to know how the story fits the synopsis or the other way around. I was curious, anxious, and eager to experience Jeremy and Phoebe's love story that I finished it in one night!

You're looking for second-chance romance?
You got it.

How about some wit and steam?
Why, yes. Laugh, smile, smirk, and fan yourself until it's not enough and you might need some cold shower.

But you want some angst and fall in love at the same time, you say?
Jeremy McQueen and Phoebe St. Claire will make you feel that and more. Like, you might end up screaming and want to do bodily harm to them just so they'll stop being toxic to each other. But in the end, you will cheer them on and fall in love with them.

I, for one, wanted to yell at them for all the years they lost because of their rash decisions but the author weaved the story and their characteristics in a way that made effortlessly made me say "oh yeah, they were young then... but ugh I hope it didn't happen like that but well, they were young and lust-induced, so okay." All the feels were placed well and for that, I had to give it to Kim Karr.

From one young man working for his future to now being one of the hottest and in-demand businessman for the A-listers, Jeremy McQueen is one fine book boyfriend! He was funny, sexy, and successful, and how he loves Phoebe is why he's now my second favorite Kim Karr hero (come on, I'm loyal to Xander). There were parts where I thought with his mood sometimes, shit is going to hit the fan, but he managed to surprise me, needing only a few moments to cool off and be reasonable and opens the communication between him and Phoebe. I love a guy who likes (and initiates) to talk things through to avoid misunderstandings. 100 cookie points for you, Mr. McQueen.

Phoebe St. Claire is born with a silver spoon in one the richest and well-connected families in New York City. Although now, their family business is on the rocks, she remained level-headed, calm, and determined to save their family legacy. Liking Phoebe for me was a build-up, it's not that I didn't like her in the beginning, I was more indifferent and just curious as to where she's going. As I read along, I came to admire her with a few urges to talk some sense into her.

"I wanted him. All of him. Every single bit."

Their story started out with a passion, halted with misunderstandings and lies, but re-started with double the passion and a lot of work for their happily ever after. The McQueen and St. Claire power couple will take you on a ride with bumps, surprise turns, and show you how to really work for a relationship.

Stars: 5 stars
Recommended to: Kim Karr fans, you won't be disappointed.
