I remained silent and waited to see how far he’d take this. When his hand moved up the inside of my thigh and under my skirt, I parted my legs and rested my head against the seat, closing my eyes. Look at that, Nina managed to make me a swooning fangirl after having read Slay. It's safe to say that yes, I have been #SlayedByBlade, ladies and gentlemen.
We've met Blade in the early books of the Storm MC series. We know him as Marcus', the Storm's President's other son, half-brother to Madison and Scott. We think he comes across as somewhat broody but every inch a sexy, badass dude. But now, in his own book, we get to really meet, meet who Blade is. What makes Blade, Blade. And wow oh wow is he not only a sexy, badass, but a sexy, gentle, loving badass, too.
With the stock of books I've read, about half of them with an alpha personality, I should be somehow immune to how sweet these overprotective heroes are when you get to know them more. But I'm not. I still melt. I still swoon. And reading Blade's story and then seeing him as a protective and loving son to his mother, it earned him 100 cookie points in my jar. Although, like I mentioned in my Revive review, Nash and Velvet's story is my favorite by far, Blade's story was something else entirely. It touched me. Okay, I admit, I teared up reading the 12 year old Blade and learning about his nightmare. HEART. BROKEN. Nina Levine truly has a talent in creating different stories for each of the characters yet at the same time each story is just a puzzle piece to form and complete a larger, thrilling masterpiece.
Slay is another puzzle piece -- a satisfying, surprising piece.
What's a sexy guy without a sexy female to keep her in check, right? Blade has Layla Reed by his side. Bartender slash bar owner. Blade had been hanging out at that bar for a year and he hasn't noticed Layla until serious trouble came into her bar. Trouble that Blade knew is the dangerous kind. But Layla is not the typical damsel in distress. She's strong and smart and can hold her own. That girl can kick ass! I love her and her smart mouth. I love her and how she stands up for herself.
Together, Layla and Blade or Donovan to her, explored their attraction to each other. It's sizzling. It's emotional. I love how nurturing Layla is as a person, it's not just to Blade, it's how she really is to everyone she loves. Blade's protectiveness is ever present, I love how much he loves his mom, his half-sister, his half-brother, and how he cares about his father's wife. He's a wonderful guy! All the problems that Layla and Blade faced were a stepping stone to something that will make their relationship stronger and will impact the club's business, too.
The author has magic, she has magic in giving us characters living in the same world but they're all very different, every book takes us to another journey. I mentioned this before and I'll say this again, the Storm series gets better and better with each release!

Recommended to: Storm MC fans. Everyone looking for an amazing action-romance read.
