I am so excited to put up a new segment in this blog! I'm still thinking of a name... maybe I'll call it Weekly Mara's Bookshelf Roundup for now.
Since I started reviewing for another blog earlier this year until I started my own and started another one with fellow bloggers until I decided to focus on Mara's Bookshelf (mainly to save my sanity), I haven't had too much time to read books that I actually purchased. Not that I'm complaining though. I'm not. It's been a fabulous year for me and this blog. I've met and made friends from different parts of the world, bloggers, readers and authors. I am super thankful for that!
In the past several months though, I've been trying to make time reading books that have been sitting on my Kindle for a while now in between my ARC and blog tour commitments. So far, it's going "slowly but surely".
For this new weekly segment, I would like to share with you all the books that I've read for each week, ARCs and non-ARCs. Aside from sharing it to those who follow this blog, this is also my way to keep track of my unread books and my progress. Hopefully, you'll find something to read from my list, too.
Let's start, shall we? This roundup is for the week of November 17th until November 23rd.
1. Slay - Nina Levine
A puzzle piece to the Storm MC series. Be #SlayedByBlade and you won't regret it! This is the 4th book in the series, although each book is about different characters, it's highly recommended that they be read in order. I've read this as part of the blog tour.
BLOOD WILL BE SHED...
The ghosts of Donovan "Blade" Brookes' life are closing in on him.
Hardened by an abusive childhood and haunted by the murder of his fiancé, Blade struggles against the dark forces threatening to consume him. When he helps Layla Reed in her hour of need, he has no idea she will be the light to his darkness. As they spend more time together, he is powerless to fight his desire for her. Powerless to fight his need for her. However, as his feelings deepen, he pushes her away, reluctant to drag her into his world. With enemies coming at him from all directions, Storm MC needing his help to fight off a rival, and his father still causing him grief, Blade needs the love of a good woman now more than ever. Can Layla push Blade to the edge and get him to admit to both of them what he wants? Or will the darkness pull him under once and for all?
2. Be My Hero - Linda Kage
The third book in the standalone Forbidden Men series. I have only read the first book and this one and I'll say Be My Hero is way, way, way better than Price of a Kiss!
Once upon a time, there was this pampered rich girl who was kind of full of herself. She really only cared about appearances and hiding all her dark, ugly secrets under the guise of an opinionated snob. But then Eva Mercer got pregnant, shot by a psycho, and kicked out of the only home she knew. Now she’s broke, unemployed, and has to start anew with a newborn to raise. But how?
On the other side of town, sexy, tattooed orphan, Patrick Ryan, can’t get a break. He’s out on parole for defending the last damsel in distress while trying to help her support her child, but all he wants is to find his one true love. He knows this woman by scent, smile, and laugh, but he’s never actually met her. He doesn’t even know her name. He just knows she’s the key to fixing everything.
One kind of hero can save you from physical harm. Another can rescue you from a different kind of doom. To reach their dreams, Eva and Pick can save each other. But first, they must open their hearts and learn how to trust.
3. Ready or Not - J.L. Berg
J.L. Berg never fails! Yet another lovable couple from the Ready series. Ready or Not is part of a standalone series with interconnecting characters and will release on December 2, 2014.
Jackson Reid is starting over with a new job in a brand new city. A single father to his son Noah, he hopes the change will help strengthen the bond that has seemed to suffer since puberty reared its ugly head. What he hadn’t planned on was Liv—his exotic next-door neighbor who drives him insane with her wild, new age lifestyle, but still manages to leave him aching for more.
As challenges arise and feelings intensify, will these neighbors be able to look past their differences and find a middle ground? When love comes knocking, will they be ready, or not?
4. Fighting to Forgive - J.B. Salsbury
Another book that's part of a standalone series, this is an emotional one yet sweet and swoon-worthy!
What do you do when everything you avoid, turns out to be exactly what you need?
Easy and predictable, just the way he likes it, Blake Daniels flies through life the way he burns through women: on his terms, no regrets.
With his fighting career in full swing, he's on the threshold of title contention. But when his training is compromised by injury, the stakes grow impossibly higher. The rage that fuels his punches also chips away at his focus, and he risks losing everything he cares about.
He won’t let that happen. Not again.
Layla’s through with men. After a marriage that never should’ve happened, she hopes to reclaim the pieces of the woman she lost years ago.
Emotional abuse has left her insecure and terrified. A master at faking what she’s not feeling, she masks her self-doubt in false confidence.
She’ll never let another man hurt her. Not again.
Chased by shadows of the past, Blake and Layla know what they don’t want, but their hearts have a different plan. As a web of lies and betrayal threatens to destroy them, they’re forced to make a choice.
Is love enough to heal even the deepest wounds?
Or will they be left Fighting to Forgive?
I see I have 2 ARCs and 2 non-ARCs.
