STUNNED. SPEECHLESS. I have no words. Not enough words. No perfect words that would best describe the experience I had with reading Black Lies. I cannot believe I waited this long to start this. Then again, I was in the right mood for something that will stimulate my brain cells and tingle every nerve I have, so yesterday was the perfect time for me to read it. It didn't disappoint. Not even close.

This is the second Alessandra Torre book that I've read. The first one, I've read 3 years or so ago and unfortunately, that one didn't work out well for me but now after reading Black Lies, I am considering re-reading that book. Black Lies is for sure going to my "Best of 2014" shelf! HOLY GUACAMOLE IT'S BEEN 2 DAYS AND I STILL CAN'T FORM SENTENCES.

I want to make this a spoiler-free review, that's how it should be anyways, right? But keeping this completely spoiler-free is the key to making your Black Lies experience a thrilling one. That's for sure.

Now, how does one write a spoiler-free review for something like Black Lies? I'm not sure. So, I'm going to stick with just saying all the feelings, emotions, and thoughts I had while reading this incredibly gripping, thought-provoking novel that is Brant, Lee, and Layana's story.

I dove right into this book without reading reviews in detail. I just skimmed through the review titles and read the first couple of sentences of some of them, both high and low ratings. As if the synopsis wasn't intriguing enough, the reviews and my friends' status updates had me trying to figure out what the heck's going on in the book. I started reading, the first few pages got me anticipating the next events that will unravel. Alas, Alessandra Torre wrote the story in a way that for sure will keep everyone on the edge of their seats and keep them thinking and thinking where the story will take them. How it went from somewhat present to going back and starting from the beginning, building up the foundation of everything until the unraveling of the huge twist, is one thing that boosted up my rating.

The characters are so effective. Brant Sharp -- a tech genius billionaire. Handsome, intelligent, serious, powerful and oh so broody yet romantic. For someone who have no experience in serious relationships, Brant knows how to make a woman feel loved. And he's not all actions without words or vice versa, he does both. He has no qualms letting Layana "Lana" know how much he loves her, with his actions and words.

Lee -- a cocky, gardener/landscaper, fist-fighter kind of guy. He's mostly what Brant isn't and Lana didn't find it hard to see the good in him, yet at the same time, she couldn't stop comparing the two. Where Brant is into schedules, Lee prefers spontaneity. Where Lee is loud and outspoken, Brant is serious and carefully thinks of his words. But reading the development in the story, it isn't hard to fall in love with those two.

Layana "Lana" Fairmont -- rich, beautiful, one that doesn't back out from a challenge. When she wants something, she goes for it. Being in a relationship with 2 guys is a challenge but then again, not everything is what it seems. Personally, I don't know how she did it. I would've split my head into two from all the things that has been going on, yet Lana, she stayed strong, firm, and determined to figure out what's best for her and the love of her life and she acted on it.
Brant or Lee? Lee or Brant? For Layana, she wants both. Loves both. Adores both. It's true what the synopsis said, if you think you know this story -- you don't. It's 100% true. And I have to admit, if I haven't figured out the "twist" mid-story, I would have thrown my Kindle on my bed (I love it too much to throw it on the wall). Hey, I didn't figure it out at first, I have had a couple of guesses before sticking to that one guess I felt strongly about and then BAM!

I didn't know what to expect, just that there is a "woah" moment somewhere in here and by 30%, I got scared. I'm not a fan of love triangles and cheating, especially detailed ones. Just a hint of it is bearable, but going deep into the emotions of the cheating, I can't. However, for some reason (mainly my over curious self), I wanted to know more and I found myself flipping through the pages and forming theories in my mind.

Captivating. Totally, absolutely, captivating. Alessandra Torre's storytelling is erotic. And not just about the sex. I realized being erotic doesn't necessarily need too much words and details because the author was able to make this a sensual experience for the mind just by letting the few words she write be sexy enough for my imagination to do the rest. It was extremely sexy, that way.

Black Lies is an unforgettable read. Champagne and cheers to Alessandra Torre for a brilliant storytelling!
