BLOG TOUR, REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Stupid Girl - Cindy Miles

Stupid Girl by Cindy Miles
Publication date: May 13th 2014
Genres: New Adult, Romance
Only fools fall in love…

After her senior year of high school leaves behind nothing but heartache, Olivia Beaumont is sure of this: She’s no stupid girl. She sets out for Winston College, promising herself that she will remain focused on her first and only love – astronomy. But all it takes is cocky sophomore Brax Jenkins and an accidental collision with a football, to throw her entire year off course.
A quick-tempered Southie who escaped the inner city streets of Boston to pitch for Winston, Brax is known to play way more fields than just the baseball diamond. So, when his name is drawn to take part in his fraternity’s hazing dare, Brax eagerly accepts the mission to take Olivia’s virginity. But he doesn’t plan on falling hard for the sweet and sassy Texasgirl who sees right through his bad-boy persona.

As Olivia and Brax battle their feelings for each other, echoes of the past year begin to surface. A boy who once turned Olivia’s whole world upside down reappears, and “harmless” pranks wreak havoc. Pretty soon the aspiring astronomer is on the verge of revealing her most difficult, heartbreaking secret. All the while, Brax must wrestle with the irrevocable dare, and Olivia struggles against all logic as she does the one thing only a stupid girl would do: fall in love.

"The moment my eye touched the eyepiece, a shooting star blazed a glittery line of dust, then faded. I never grew tired of meteors. Ever. Was it a sign, this one particular star, its tail ablaze and zerping across the sky?"

Emotional and painful. Reading just the Prologue, these emotions were strong. A high school student, or any girl no matter the age for that matter, shouldn't be abused in any way and what Olivia had gone through that night is beyond infuriating.

Cindy Miles wrote a story with a deep and realistic lesson about teenage life. She gave us Olivia, a girl who experienced such a horrible thing and still stand tall and proud and survive high school and determined to go through college and succeed. No matter the damage she feels inside, she shows strength and courage to other. She learned to not judge others simply by hearing about things second-hand and that sometimes not all who shows goodness are really good inside or not all tough-looking people are bad and up to no good. Yet with all these, I did not get the vibe that she was cynical. Olivia was actually pretty lively. I did say she stood tall and proud, right?

Brax Jenkins, yes, he's the "tough-looking people" I was really referring to. He was charming, a known flirt, a tattooed protective school athlete. He took to Olivia that first day she moved in to the dorms and haven't left her side since then. Until that morning where Olivia found herself heartbroken. I liked Brax's persistence and light-hearted attitude. He's definitely not like what I would imagine when I keep reading about his tattooed, muscled tough guy persona. He was really sweet and very attentive.

I loved the easy writing. I think it's just that there are parts that I wish flowed smoothly throughout the whole book and I think it's also because I've already read quite a lot of other books with this same premise and I was hoping something in this book will stand out from the rest and I found nothing.

But overall, if you enjoy YA/NA reads or if you're looking for one from this genre for your first-time read, Stupid Girl is a nicely written book with sweet and angst combined. Oh, there's also some funny lines especially from Tessa which cracked me up good!

Stars: 3.5 stars

Extra Comment: I loved the Draco scene!
