"I never ever wanted to let go.
She was mine.
I was hers.
We were each other's."

I was laying on my bed in the dark waiting for sleep to catch up to me, when it didn't come soon enough I thought, "I have a couple of books to read, I should just read one until my eyes can't stay awake anymore". And so I browsed through my Kindle docs (to make sure I don't get distracted by previous books I've bought and/or read already) while reminding myself not to choose someting that's emotionally heavy. I saw Reap. Thinking I got myself the perfect late-night read, something action-packed, suspenseful, and for sure won't have me waking up with puffy eyes from crying, I dove right in.

Why am I telling you that little prologue to my Reap reading experience? Well...

Just when I felt like it was emotionally safe for me, tears and ugly crying wise, I found myself wiping tears off my face, feeling that wet spot on my pillow from tears, sniffing and reaching for a tissue. Reap completely ripped my heart out! I totally did not expect Zaal and Talia could make me cry that much while reading their book. I have read several of Tillie Cole's books, I've experienced her versatility in creating and writing stories for her readers. She can go from sweet sports romance to rather heavy biker romance and now mafia-fighter-action dark romance. Each of the books I've read from this author has touched me, she has that talent of getting all your emotions out in the open with her characters and stories, but Reap just made me admire Tillie Cole on a whole new level. Today is the 7th day after I finished reading about Zaal and Talia and I still could not get my thoughts together on how utterly amazing this story was!

Zaal's history, when he started to remember everything before he was made into a drug experiment was what opened my dam of tears. It was so gutwrenching, I felt my blood go cold and my heart constrict with how much pain Zaal went, and is still going through. But with all the anger and hurt, Talia's presence was refreshing. She was indeed the sun, the light, to Zaal's darkness. She was his hope. She was... for him. I loved how Talia's care and love brought back Zaal to life, sure it was heartbreaking at first, but it was also admirable and inspiring to read someone who is so gentle and brave to show concern and act on it. Let's not forget the chemistry between the two, explosive!

What I'm trying to say now is, even though I ended up with a crying-late-at-night-induced headache and puffy eyes, Reap was all worth it. For me, it was an unexpectedly absorbing and oddly enough, sweet in its own dark way and I don't regret the lack of sleep because this was a beautiful read.

Stars: 5 stars

Extra Comment: That ending! Damn, I knew it! I called it when he was having flashbacks and that scene kept playing over and over for him.
