This is an honest review. I got a free copy from winning Pam Godwin and Amber's Reading Room's Blog Giveaway.
That being said,

Holy Moses! I don't know what I exactly expected from this book. I know it has a great story and is a dark read, seeing as this book was constantly on my feed for days.
Well, all those reviews and status updates that I've read from my GR friends are right. But it's a completely different thing from reading what others thought and felt while reading this book to what you would think and feel firsthand. Be emotionally and mentally prepared for one hell of a ride because I am almost sure that you will want to pull your hair out from frustration or anxiety and then the next minute make you want to commit murder with your bare hands (with very possible torture in mind) and then you'll melt and feel all warm from all the strength, hope, and love radiating from each of the characters.
At first I was this:

and then this:

and then more this:

and then again:

Beneath the Burn is an intense and gritty story to read and I loved it.
"You showed me beauty in survival. I'll show you strength in healing."
"Putting your trust in someone is the most vulnerable thing you can do."
Pam Godwin wrote Jay and Charlee's heavy issues, challenges, and love story so perfectly, you can feel for both of them. Reading this is like being in a rollercoaster of emotions. You will mostly feel enraged with Roy and feel sorry for Charlee. Jay is a mystery you would want to get to know while you see how well he is adjusting for and with Charlee and how he wants to be a better person for her, for him, and for both of them.

This is not a fairy-tale like romance story. But it does end in HEA. This will tear your heart out imagining the situation Charlee has survived. And then it will give you hope and strength. Because if Charlee can be strong amidst all the abuse she has been through not just physically, why can't you at least try to be? At times, I felt like I am the one having a breakdown for Charlee and sometimes even for Jay. They are strong characters. No mopey scenes for Charlee. Yes, she has insecurities, she worries a lot, but she wallow in those for just a second and then she keeps her head high not letting whatever Roy dishes out to crumble her strength. Same with Jay. He tries to be strong for her. To be hopeful for her. To be straight enough for her. To protect her.

I loved and enjoyed reading Laz's light and funny remarks too. I think it keeps the balance of emotions on the story and still fits with all that is happening.

I cried. I was shocked. I had a hard time breathing. I was silently killing Roy and cheering for Jay and Charlee. I gave myself a headache. I was smiling and laughing because of the band members. And I was happy for Jay and Charlee.
If not for work and dinner date with friends, I would have finished this in a day or a day and a half considering it's quite long and again, a heavy read but a definitely thrilling page-turner.

If you've been my friend here for long, you'd have noticed how much I love my happily ever afters and somewhat "easy and light" reads, and although I do enjoy different genres too, me recommending this is a big deal. Please. Go. One-click. Read. Feel. Enjoy.
