REVIEW: Worth The Risk (McKinney Brothers #2) - Claudia Connor

5 Very Risk Worthy Stars
ARC received from Penguin Random House via NetGalley for an honest review

Have you read Worth The Fall, the first book in this very hot and heartwarming McKinney Brothers series by Claudia Connors? No? Yes? I’ve only read it a couple of weeks before I was fortunate to receive an ARC of this second book. I enjoyed it. It was fun, it was sad, it sweet. But Worth The Risk? Man, this book became an instant favorite for me!

Worth The Risk is the second book in the McKinney Brothers series, a standalone series about… well, the McKinney brothers. A tight-knit, loving family with sexy brothers in it.

“Trace Development gave me something to live for. Something to want, something else to think about. I cut myself off from my family. Just tried to turn everything off.”

In this book, it’s about Stephen McKinney. The rich, charming, and hurting from his past McKinney brother. He owns his own company and has been spending most of his time growing it. After what happened to him and Trace, he couldn’t let go of the hurt he still feels but mostly, it’s the guilt of everything that’s eating him up. Stephen was someone I can easily picture as a man who when he loves, he loves deeply. He needs to protect and provide for the woman he loves. He is loyal. But when he hurts, he tends to detach from everyone, even his family. He focused on his business and spend his time with meaningless sex, a sleeping aid as he calls it. So when he starts to feel good again, like his life starts to get exciting and he thinks everything is going to be great and wonderful, he starts to backpedal and feel the guilt of moving on.

Stephen McKinney is charming. Very. Oh, I mentioned that already, right? But he really is. Every time he spoke, he made me blush, whether from his dirty comments or from frustration, the feelings are there!

You’re curious about who Stephen is “moving on” with? Hannah Walker. The sensitive but incredibly strong woman. It’s no wonder how and why Stephen was drawn to her. Their first meeting in the supermarket, although at first had me in tears already because of what Hannah was going through then, it also made me sigh dreamily because of their encounter and how Stephen was so charming. Okay, forgive me. I keep saying Stephen is charming. It’s because he really is, so bear with me here! So Hannah, even though she has a past that I didn’t dare dream about, she was able to overcome it, be a positive person and help children and horses heal each other. I admire her for this, her passion in helping kids make her light shine so bright for everyone else to see.

"He'd missed this. Loving a woman. Being gentle. But with Hannah it was more. He stroked and teased until she was ready for him, then slid into her slowly and began a sensual dance that took them both over the top."

Together, Stephen and Hannah learn how to risk the baggages they carry for a very worthy future. A beautiful, peaceful, healing future for both of them. And unlike Matt McKinney’s story, Stephen’s is a lot more emotional and a little dark if I may so, but still as impactful and inspiring story of family, love, and healing.

How do you let go of the hurt and guilt from the past?
Is loving again wrong?
Are you worth of love even with all the darkness you carry inside you?
Will you have a future where you’re loved and healed and peaceful?

Stephen and Hannah will inspire you, will make you realize how love can conquer all, how love can help you heal if you only open up to it, how family will always be there for you in good, bad, and everything in between. Claudia Connor showed it all in this book and that’s what made me love it even more!

Stars: 5 stars
Recommended to: Readers who love drama in their romance books with a good amount of sexy scenes and a good dose of laughter, too.
POV: Dual POV. Third person.
Series: Yes. Standalone with interconnected characters.
Extra Comment: I can totally see a spin-off for Hannah’s brother/s!! I wouldn’t mind reading more about Nick and Mia’s love story. ;)
