Title: Unexpected Fate
Series: Hope Town
Author: Harper Sloan
Release Date: February 17, 2015
Or I should say recognize him for who he was.
I’ve loved Cohen Cage since I was a small child. He’s been my everything for the last twenty-two years. I’ve loved him through every girlfriend he’s ever brought home. Through his college years and then mine. I’ve loved him through two deployments. And ever since the day I told him how I felt, he’s acted like I’m a stranger.
My name is Danielle Reid, and it’s time for me to get my man.
Our future is an unexpected fate, and no matter what our parents, siblings, and friends say…it’s going to be worth every second of the fight to make it happen.

"Ready or not, Cohen. Ready. Or. Not."
It's melancholic reading a very grown-up Cohen Cage, or all Corps Security kids for that matter. Having read all the CS series since it's started, I felt like I became a part of the family. Okay, at least I feel like a neighbor and I'm friends with all of them. Reading all the problems that the older CS generation faced and braved until they have their happily ever after was an emotional ride for me. Now, having read the first book of the new generation CS had me all smiling and a tad bit emotional. I felt like I've grown with them, too.
"Jaw porn. With Cohen, it's a very real thing."
From the adorably silly and energetic Cohen Cage, more than 20 years later... He's now a very confident, dangerously sexy, and insanely protective Cohen Cage. It's amusing how I used to laugh at all his childish quirks and wit and now drool over how sexy he is. Because he is. He has grown into a man that I imagine Greg Cage's son would be -- strong, loving and determined. I did want to smack him upside down a few times though. I forgot to add stubborn to his repertoire. If you've read the CS books, you're familiar with some extremely teasing scenes that Harper Sloan wrote for Cohen and Dani. And you also got a sneak peek of Dani Reid's feelings for Cohen even at an early stage. Want to know what Cohen did with it? Nada. Nothing. Hence, the reason I wanted to smack him and then kiss the pain away at the same time. It is really sweet and right that he didn't do anything when Dani was barely legal. I'm sure Axel Reid will not be happy about his 15 year old daughter being in a relationship with anyone. But years after that, and with how close their families are, I want to scream "TRY AND I'M SURE YOU CAN MAKE IT WORK! COME ON YOU GUYS!"
Well, of course, Harper Sloan teased us some more and that's actually what I enjoyed about Dani and Cohen's story. The emotional ride it took me in, all the screaming in my head and the snickers and giggles I kept inside me all are worth it because it felt... More. All the teasing that Dani and Cohen did to each other, the sweetness and care they showed for each other, and their love... it was obvious even when Axel was threatening Dani's prom date with a gun. The time Cohen cared for Dani when she was sick, the friendship Dani gave Cohen even when secretly she wanted to just jump him and have her way with him, these seemingly small gestures made up a huge ball of love between those two.
But what's a Harper Sloan book without making me cry? I don't know, really. One may think that Harper's books are all just oozing sex and yumminess especially if you just look at the covers. But no, no, no. Each book of hers brought me to tears and I'm not just talking about the sappy kind of tears, I'm saying emotional, sad, heartbreaking tears too. And although Unexpected Fate did not make me ugly cry (thank you, Harper!), there were lots of tears shed by me. I'm such an emotional reader, I know. There was also a bit of suspense that had me guessing "WHO IS DOING THOSE THINGS TO DANI?"
"It was unexpected, baby, but it was fate. It's our unexpected fate, and I have no doubt in my mind that this happened at the perfect time for us..."
Unexpected Fate is a full ride experience and if you are like me who absolutely enjoys family series, you wouldn't want to miss this one. If you haven't read the Corps Security series, you would want to after you finish with UF. This book is a standalone in a series but I promise, you will get the complete emotional package if you read about the first generation.
Stars: 5 stars
Recommended to: Everyone who loved the Corps Security men, you will love the kids too! Or even if you're new to the series, Dani and Cohen will make you fall in love with them and I'm sure you would want to read the first books also.
Series: Yes. Standalone.
POV: First person. Dual POV.
Extra Comment: I look forward to the rest of the (not really) kids' stories!!! Lee seems wonderful!
Harper lives in small town Georgia just a short drive from her hometown of Peachtree City. She (and her 3 daughters) enjoy ruling the house they dubbed 'Estrogen Ocean', much to her husband’s chagrin. Harper has a borderline unhealthy obsession with books; you can almost ALWAYS find her with her eReader attached. She enjoys bad reality TV and cheesy romantic flicks. Her favorite kind of hero--the super alpha kind!
Harper started using writing as a way to unwind when the house went to sleep at night; and with a house full of crazy it was the perfect way to just relax. It didn't take long before a head full of very demanding alphas would stop at nothing to have their story told.
