BLOG TOUR, REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Where The Road Takes Me - Jay McLean

Title: Where The Road Takes Me
Author: Jay McLean
Release Date: February 10, 2015

Chloe has one plan for the future, and one plan only: the road. She’s made a promise to herself: don’t let anyone in, and don’t let anyone love her. She’s learned the hard way what happens if she breaks her rules. So she’s focused on being invisible and waiting until she can set out on the road—her dream of freedom, at least for a little while.

Blake Hunter is a basketball star who has it all—everything about him looks perfect to those on the other side of his protective walls. He can’t let anyone see the shattered pieces behind the flawless facade or else all his hopes and dreams will disappear.

One dark night throws Chloe and Blake together, changing everything for Blake. For Chloe, nothing changes: she has the road, and she’s focused on it. But when the so-called perfect boy starts to notice the invisible girl, they discover that sometimes with love, no one knows where the road may lead.

"You can run, you can hide, you can choose not to see, but where the road takes you will always lead to me."

What I like about Jay McLean and her books? The stories she write are heartfelt. I always feel like I'm part of the story, like I'm friends with the characters, like I'm experiencing what the characters are going through, like I can feel things happening first hand.

While Where The Road Takes Me didn't tug on my heartstrings and messed with my emotions like how the author did it in the More series, all of the things I mentioned above on what I like about Jay McLean and her books are still in Where The Road Takes Me. And don't think that just because I said it didn't mess with my emotions that I didn't cry. Oh, I did. It wasn't pretty too because I sort of prepared myself to cry (because come on, this is Jay and she managed to make me ugly in all of her books so far) but I didn't see that thing happening and I was at a Starbucks. Alone. Crying.

Blake and Chloe's story seemed like a typical teenage young love story. Both in college, somehow both with family "issues", but it wasn't like that at all. As I kept reading, I started to feel like there's something deeper going on especially with Chloe and once it was revealed, I started to get nervous on where the author would take the story. Is this going to be with our without a happily ever after? I started to get worried but that feeling wasn't enough to make me want to stop. If anything, it made me want to finish it quickly. Jay McLean has a way with her storytelling that even though I'm already ugly-crying or feels like I can actually hear my heartbreaking, I can't stop. And like always, the smiles, the pain, and the worry I had all throughout the book were all worth it at the end.

Blake loved Chloe in such a mature, adult way. He didn't leave her side. He supported her, he cared for her, and he made sure that she won't be alone and lonely even though Chloe can be a little annoying with how she pushes everyone who loves her away. Blake helped Chloe open up to love. To give love and to accept love. It was such an amazing treat to read a hero who wasn't just alpha bossy but also tender and caring like how Blake was.

"I'm so in love with you. And that love -- it might not be forever. But while we're both here -- that love is always."

Jay McLean may always make me cry with her stories and her characters but as long as I feel all these feelings and still make me smile and believe in love while I read her books, I won't tire of reading them all!

Stars: 4 stars
Recommended to: Coming of age romance readers.
POV: Dual POV. First person.
Series: No. Standalone.
Extra Comment: I can understand where some readers might find the story kind of choppy or lacking in some parts, I felt it at some points but I'm still giving this a solid 4 because of the writing, the story and because of the secondary characters. Jay always writes lovable, wonderful secondary characters!!!

Jay McLean is the author of the More Series, including More Than This, More Than Her, More Than Him and More Than Forever. She also has two standalones coming soon titled Where The Road Takes Me, and Combative.

Jay is an avid reader, writer, and most of all, procrastinator. When she's not doing any of those things, she can be found running after her two little boys, or devouring some tacky reality TV show.

She writes what she loves to read, which are books that can make her laugh, make her smile, make her hurt, and make her feel.
