Neglected, ignored, and hurt were the emotions that a 7-month pregnant Kate was feeling. We met her as Riley's best friend in Scarred by Love and girlfriend of Riley's brother, Carson. Now in Broken by Love, Kate and Carson are having a baby on the way and Carson is apparently too overwhelmed about the change that's about to happen in his life.
Reading the Prologue immediately got my attention, feelings were touched and my mind was reeling with thoughts on how Kate and Carson's story will turn out. Oh, I also had a few choice words for Carson at the first part of the book. Among all the other brothers that Riley has, Carson seemed to be the gentlest even though they're all known to be a brother of heartbreakers who couldn't commit to a serious relationship. But I liked him, even in the first book, Carson had my interest piqued. Now, I read more about him and although he became distant to Kate and handled his issues in a less-than-mature way, it was simply how a young man who has enjoyed his single life so much react with a huge responsibility that he suddenly needs to face. It's frustrating but it's also real-life. He didn't know how to handle it so he withdrew himself and drank himself into a stupor… mostly everyday. Leaving a pregnant Kate at home and alone. Not his finest moment.
I felt for Kate. The loneliness and hurt from Carson's sudden change are enough for a hormonal woman to pack up her bags and leave. I think it was very patient of her to have lasted months being treated that way but then again she love Carson and they have a baby on the way. I liked how Kate put up with everything and when she couldn't take it anymore, she leaves. And what's even more admirable was she didn't cave easily when Carson came back around. She stood her ground and let Carson earn his way back to her and their daughter. I always like a woman who knows her worth and stands by her decision when need be. And it turned out really well with Kate and her new and improved relationship with Carson.
Figures, as cliché as it sounds but "you don't know what you got until it's gone" rings true every time.
Reading Kate and Carson's relationship, their decisions, how they are as a couple, as friends and as new parents, is a real enjoyable treat. Sure it was pretty sad and heartbreaking at first but once they figured themselves out and their relationship blossomed even more, it was a sweet read with a good mix of sexiness thrown into it.
The side characters which are mostly Riley's family and a couple of new friends are all likable ones too and the more I read about the other Parks brother, the more interested I got in knowing more about him and his story, too. Then again, I think as much as I loved reading about him, I also felt like almost half of the book focused a lot on Max and Bree's issues. I understand giving us a peek enough to intrigue us, but somewhere along the way it was almost like Kate and Carson became the supporting characters instead of the main ones. That's where my 1 star went, if you're wondering. But aside from that, CA Harms wrote interesting characters and engaging love story.

Recommended to: Readers with baby-on-the-way couple preference (like me!!!) or simply anyone looking for a good read.
