ARC received from Tessa Teevan for an honest review.
Are you in the lookout for strong, stubborn, sassy, yet completely lovable, funny, and admirable characters? Of course, not to mention a hot love story with a hot soldier and equally sexy heroine. Yes? Then get your itchy 1-click finger on and buy Incinerate!
I swear, I laughed, giggled, swooned within the first few chapters. And that didn't let up until the last page.
"All I did was say hi and tell him my name. Since when did that mean 'please bend me over this table and do me good'?"
Charlotte "Charlie" Davenport is officially on my list of favorite heroines. She is confident, sexy, funny, sassy, stubborn, but at the same loving, committed, and patient.
Then there's how committed and loyal Charlie is to her job, her volunteer work, she actually enjoys helping out wounded soldiers and being a liaison at the Veterans Affairs office then there's her best friend Lucy. Even though Lucy can get a little crazy at times or can leave her alone in a bar while she goes and search for guys for both of them, Charlie fiercely loves her and appreciates her craziness. And yes, Lucy is quite a character too!
"You totally gave that guy spank bank material! Nice going, girl."
And there's the sexy, stubborn, funny Charlie with Knox. She's not afraid to speak her mind and stand her ground against a very grumpy injured Knox and I love it! She doesn't go around the corner and pout even though at times Knox would get into her nerves. She fights head-on.
"Maybe while I'm gone you can take the foot out of your mouth and shove it up your ass."
When it comes to relationships, she knows what she wants and that is most definitely not casual and after experiencing a heartbreak with her (ex)fiancé, I admire that she didn't become too jaded about it and instead saw the positive in it.
"I think it was a gift. Imagine if you'd ended up married to her and she later on decided you weren't enough. Look how close I was to coming to what really would've been the biggest mistake of my life. Be thankful she got away, Knox. I know I am."
Talk about an admirable characteristic for a girl who caught her boyfriend for years and soon-to-be-husband doing the janitor.
Now, let me talk about Knox. Know Wellington. The injured, both emotionally and physically, soldier and loverboy.
"If Knox was a Disney character, he'd definitely be Flynn Ryder because he definitely has the smolder down."

Knox is hot, charming, stubborn, and can-be-sweet-when-he-wants-to. He's understandably grumpy at first because of his injuries, limiting his movements and physical activities. He is also funny. You know, in a soldier hot way (I don't even know what I mean by that but… you get my drift).
"As easily as they decide they love you, they can also wake up the next morning and kick you to the curb. Fuck love."
For someone who's always strong and physically capable, he became someone who needs help to put on and take off his pants and shirt. But even before his physical injuries, his emotional ones run deep and long ago. He was so broken-hearted at the time that he immediately listed in the Army and never looked back. He swore off relationships, love, and commitment because of his high school sweetheart-turned-sister-in-law.
But when he met Charlie, everything changed for him. Since the blast that caused his injuries, he has been thinking about his life. How he's alone. How he thinks that maybe he can try to go for a relationship, to have someone constant in his life caring for him and to care for. When Charlie entered in his life, first at the bar where he turned her down like an ass and then finding out the next day that she's the one to take care of him while he's recovering, Knox tried fighting off the attraction and all the feelings he's getting because of her. He felt comfortable with her, aside from her looks, he admire her personality, how she's able to stand up to him and still be patient with him.
They slowly got to know each other even without meaning so and eventually, the attraction that they've both (well, mostly Knox) been fighting went kapok when Knox finally gave in after Charlie's "night out".
The relationship that they leveled up from being simply a volunteer-patient to somewhat-friends to roommates to lovers came so naturally.
"Here's the thing. I'm tired of this roommate bullshit. I want more than that. I want you to be my girl. I want you to be in my bed, just like this."
The way Tessa Teevan wrote it doesn't feel rushed. It just flowed smoothly. As a couple, Charlie and Knox are as funny, steamy, and as real as it can get. I love how Charlie is encouraging of Knox's family problems. How she supports her Rugged Man to overcome his fears, his insecurities, his past heartache. Charlie was like a rock to Knox without being nagging or overbearing. I totally get all the Charlie love from my friends who kept talking about her!
Aside from their banters of being 2 stubborn people, their sex life was… pretty WOW. Knox. Oh, Knox.

There is no single dull moment in this book. If not for work, I may have just finished this in one sitting.
The supporting characters were enjoyable to read too. Especially Knox's younger brother, Cohen. He seems really interesting and I'm happy that Tessa will be writing his story too! Jace and Alexa were a good part of Incinerate too and I'm happy to be reading a glimpse about their life before the Epilogue in Ignite. After reading and loving Jace and Alexa's story, I'm feeling the same with Knox and Charlie. I'm sure you will too!
Stars: 5 stubborn-funny-romantic stars!
Recommended to: Everyone who loves a strong heroine, a hot military guy, a steamy love scene, and a funny banter between characters.
POV: First person. Dual POV. (I love dual povs!)
Series: Yes, BUT standalone.
Cliffhanger: No. But Kale and Lucy's story is up next and is introduced in this book. Ah, their story looks exciting and very different from these first two books.
EXTRA COMMENT: There were a few typos I read that I sent to the author, but those are not too important with how the story and emotions were portrayed.
