REVIEW: Loving Mr. Daniels - Brittainy C. Cherry

4 Tearstained Stars!
RELEASE DATE: MAY 13, 2014

"Memories were scary, how they could break you with simply your own thoughts."

Heart wrenching, emotional, and a deeply touching story about family and love. These feelings are what reading Loving Mr. Daniels has gotten out of me.

This is my first Brittainy Cherry book, I didn’t know what to expect of her writing and storytelling, and now, I am extremely blown away by it! She managed to tug at my emotions and made me cry at 3% of the book. At the rate I’m going with books making me cry more than usual, I’m starting to keep track on how far along before I bawl my eyes out, and with Daniel and Ashlyn’s story, I did early on in the book.

Loving Mr. Daniels is not the typical student-teacher romance that I’ve read in the past, this felt like there’s more depth in their story. More feelings involved. More feelings to resolve. More feelings to deal with. More, more, more.

I’ve never lost a sister, I don’t have an addict or alcoholic mother, I never fell in love with my English teacher (or any teacher of mine for that matter), but I did lose a family member close to me, someone I dearly love, my Dad. And at some point in the story, I felt what Ashlyn has been feeling. Lost, alone, sad, and even angry. Brittainy Cherry wrote a very realistic emotion to the characters, what they they experiencing, how a person typically reacts and feels to certain circumstances.

I love how how Daniel and Ashlyn’s love story blossomed. I love how Gabby still played a huge role in Ashlyn’s life. I love the friends and family she’s made. I love the feelings that this story has brought out in me. I love the flow of the story. It was never boring, it was sad and heartbreaking but it didn’t stop me from reading, that even made me want to flip the pages even more! I absolutely loved the Epilogue, and you should all know that I’m a sucker for a really good one.

So, you might ask why 4 and not 5 stars? Somewhere between the last few chapters and the Epilogue, it lost the strong grip it had on me. It was still there, the grip, the curiosity and the eagerness to find out how things will turn out for everyone, how their stories will end, but it slipped a little and those parts felt like it was summarized. I understand that if it were made to be more detailed then it will turn out to be a long novel than intended or might be cut into two books, but up until that point, almost everything was working for me.

But regardless of my 1-star lack to perfection, I still highly recommend Loving Mr. Daniels to everyone. I’m sure I will not be the only one crying at 3% and falling in love all through out the book.

About the Author
Brittainy Cherry has been in love with words since the day she took her first breath. She lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with her lovedones and loves a great romance. The Space In Between is her debut novel and she looks forward to the world being able to read it! Other hobbies that she loves to take part in are writing screenplays, acting, and dancing--poorly of course. Coffee, chai tea, and wine are three things that she thinks every person should partake in! When she's not running around and crafting stories, she's probably playing with her wonderfully adorable fur babies who she loves to death!
