Intriguing, exciting, steamy, and funny, those are just some of the words I have to describe The Intern. This first part of a 3-part serial will bait you hook, line, and sinker into a web of mystery and incredibly hot deceit.
Brooke Cumberland sure made me keep turning the pages on my Kindle and anxious on what will happen next. What happened to Ceci’s dad? Will Ceci find the answers she was looking for? Will Ceci keep up with deceit? Will Bentley find out? How will he react when finds out that the 21-year old intern that they hired was actually an 18-year old high school student? All these questions were swirling in my head and when there are no more pages left to tap… I was left staring at my Kindle screen.
I didn’t know much what to expect from this book, I was hoping I would at least not get bored with it, especially since this is my first read from the author and it’s a 3-part serial. But I had a really good time spending a short time reading Cecilia and Bentley. They are such sassy characters that boredom did not even come to mind anymore once I started reading and all that age and forbidden office relationship had me going on.
Ceci pretended to be her older sister, Casey, to take on an internship in an investigative firm, Leighton Enterprises where she meets Bentley Leighton -- son of the owner, one of her internship interviewers, and eventually, her boss. Her decision to apply for this internship is not to find a gorgeous, sexy man to take home. No. She went in and charmed her way through the interview to get the internship position and find answers to questions she has.
Bentley is a 24-year old man being groomed to be CEO of the family business, former model and party boy, he was instantly enticed with Ceci’s beauty and self-assurance. He fights off the pull she has on him and tried to ignore the feelings that he’s having for her. It was adorable (I don’t think that’s what Bentley is going for) reading Bentley’s thoughts! He is such a charmer.
From Ceci’s reason for pretending she’s her 21-year old sister, to Bentley’s fighting (and giving in) his attraction to his intern, The Intern will make you smile and even nervous if that particular scene or this slip-up from Ceci will reveal her lies about herself. Not to mention, this will also make your body heat go up the roof. The build up of their flirting with each up to the moment they went at it like long lost lovers, is extremely combustible. The attraction was palpable but when they did act on it… man, Bentley has a way with words… and action! Ceci wasn’t bad too! She’s confident, witty, and charming. These two make a hot couple and I cannot wait to read what happens next after that blanket hide-and-seek ending!
