REVIEW: Finding My Way (Beaumont #4) - Heidi McLaughlin

4.5 Heartbreaking Stars!

If you haven’t read any of the books in The Beaumont Series yet, you should get on it already. If you’re going to ask me if I would recommend you to read Finding My Way before Forever My Girl, just so you can “start at the beginning”, I wouldn’t know what to answer you.

There is something about Heidi McLaughlin’s writing that got me hooked not just to the series but the stories in there and the beautiful, real-life feel of the characters. Finding My Way made feel.
Liam Page Westbury made me swoon. He made me ache for him. He made me cry for him. I felt his pain, the pressure and expectations of everyone around him. I was worried for him, that at any moment he’ll breakdown and just give up. But more importantly, I understood his story and why he, an 18-year old young man, ended up hurting and abandoning the 3 people he claimed to love more than anything. It wasn’t easy especially with the crazy emotions I was having but I understood why he felt it’s the only way he can achieve what he wants for himself and not what others expect of him. I don’t 100% with all the decisions he has and how he went about things, but maybe I’m speaking as a much older person right now, but I understand.

I mentioned not knowing what to answer if I’m asked whether to read Finding My Way first before starting with Forever My Girl, that’s because I’ve read FMG and I was still crying at 3AM and aching for Josie and Jojo. I already know how their story goes and yet I was crying like my own boyfriend broke up with me.

Finding My Way is Liam’s story but it was not only about him, the first quarter of the book was a much more look into his and Josie’s love. We’ve had flashbacks on how things used to be during the good old days between them from Forever My Girl, but in Liam’s story, we see the whole story. I think that is why this is a more emotional one than I expected. I thought I will mostly be annoyed with Liam because come on, he left Josie and their friends! That didn’t happen. I mostly cried and got my heart broken. Annoyed, I most definitely was not. Liam and Josie were madly in love with their futures already planned out, but when Liam started having doubts about his “career choice”, that’s when I started having one-sided conversations of “Hell no”, “Just tell her already”, “Why are you not feeling something’s wrong, Josie?”, with my Kindle.

Heidi also showed us Mason and Katelyn’s story here, how much they love each other and how bonded the 4 of them are. Always spending time together and doing things together. This may be my 2nd favorite thing about Finding My Way. It’s like blending in all of their stories into one sweet, painful treat, if I can call crying a treat.

And because this is Liam’s story and his journey to becoming the music artist that he is, we also have a glimpse of 4425 West’s “humble beginnings” and how they reached the success that they dreamed of. Sadly but also necessary, we see a different side of Liam too. Years of feeling alone and being in the industry has its effects on anyone, Liam was not spared. Girls, one-night stands, he didn’t have many but when he gives in to the urge, it can get ugly. The first time he did it, I cried.

Yep, I’m an emotional mess.

I cried for him and for Josie and for everything that he thinks he’s rubbing out by rubbing in with someone else.

But this is a journey of an 18-year old confused, pressured, and in love trying to find his own mark into the world by doing what he loves and not others’ expectations. All of the things that led Liam to this point, is a bumpy road that is understandable for someone so young who is dealing with immense pressure.

If you’ve read and loved Forever My Girl like I did, Finding My Way is a must read!
